Black Sea Mnemiopsis
Database Workshop

The second workshop was organized with the support of the Permanent Secretariat of
the Black Sea Commission (BSC/PS) in Istanbul back to back with the 14th Meeting of the
BSC Advisory Group on Conservation of Biodiversity. The workshop discussed following issues:
- Review of the data and metadata loaded in the database;
- Needs in updating of MLDB software;
- Compatibility of the data from different sources loaded into the database;
- Existing data sets that are not in the database yet;
- Further improovement of the Manual on Sampling and Sample Processing of the Invasive Ctenophores and other gelatinous organisms
- Action plan for 2009 - 2010
From the time of the 1st workshop three more data providers has joined the MLDB
activity having now onboard total eleven providers from four Black Sea
countries: Bulgaria, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine. Welcoming this extension, the
workshop tasked Dr. Vladymyrov to contact with scientist in Georgia, Romania and
Russia to invite them to take part in the MLDB activity.
One of the important
decisions of the workshop was reducing the restricted period of access to data
from 15 to 10 years and implementation of the authorized access to the
restricted data at the MLDB website.
